The Toshiba Satellite L955D-108 is one of those laptops that, although there are not outstanding in any category, are very robust options to the user medium, because they combine performance more than acceptable with a fairly low price, in this case 599 euros. That Yes, while uses Windows 8, its 15.6 inch screen is not touch, so experience with Modern UI will not be the same.
This, in principle, should not be a problem for users who are faced with the operating system for the first time, but if limited options, especially in what refers to downloading optimized applications.
Anyway, its size makes it ideal for normal use of your target audience: Browse, play multimedia content and Office applications.
Moreover, there is no particularly noteworthy aspect of the screen that has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. I.e. you can see the points that form it without much effort.
This computer has a full keyboard (six rows), one more numerical. The presence of the latter forces a somewhat strange layout of the QWERTY keyboard and the trackpad, found on the left.
However, the keys are large and comfortable response, so after spending a few minutes writing it is easy to get used. Moreover, within a few hours of use I got a ratio of words per minute slightly above that I get with the laptop that I normally use, which has a much lower size.
For its part, the directional arrows on the Satellite L955D-108 are quite smaller. This should not be a problem, but the placement of two of them (up and down) is incomprehensible: are so stuck that it is almost impossible to press a without tightening the other.
This makes them practically useless to play, although it is also true that this is not the primary use of this laptop. In any case, is a small spot that tarnishes a wonderful keyboard.
The trackpad, on the other hand, responding accurately and supports multi-touch gestures. It is thus possible to scroll (horizontally and vertically) to drag two fingers or zoom with the gesture of zooming so common in smartphones and tablets.
With these functions it is possible to meet in part the lack of a touch screen (for example, is quite comfortable navigating Modern UI) and with a little bit of use is achieved fairly quickly and accurately.
Toshiba has taken enough care aspect of the Satellite L955D-108, which boasts "a casing in brushed grey aluminium with blue reflections", in the words of the company.
However, this finish covers not all notebook, which has several plastic parts on the inside. Space to rest your wrists Yes is aluminum (and also quite comfortable), but the keyboard and the screen cover are a black plastic that is impossible to not leave stains with your fingers.
This is especially noticeable on the screen, since to tilt it you need to rest your hand on the plastic parts, which will leave a footprint that would delight any member of the CSI team.
On the other hand, although the speakers grille not at odds in terms of design, yes it does in regards to manufacturing. This component has a somewhat shabby appearance and moves when squeezed. The power button is located on this piece, but perhaps would have been a better idea do one larger size or a different material, it seems that the speakers have swallowed it.
As for the sound, the two stereo speakers "with SRS HD quality Premium" are pretty mediocre, but at least arrive at one volume more than respectable. Therefore, next to the screen size, it is a decent team to play multimedia content.
Satellite L955D-108 has an AMD A6-4455 processor 2.1 GHz with a graphics card AMD Radeon HD7500G, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 640 GB hard drive (available 587). This achieves a 4.4 on Windows experience, although this indicator highlights only the lowest score (in this case, graphics performance). No_obstante, the average of the five fields measured by Microsoft is 5.42).
Thus, achieved an average yield, i.e., does not give any problem when performing the most common actions (e.g., write a text document while you run other programs and there are several tabs open in your browser).
In addition, boasts an HD webcam with microphone, 3 USB ports (two of them 3.0), HDMI and RGB outputs, slot cards and DVD recorder.
Its weight is light enough for a computer of its size, about 2.2 kilograms, and 4-cell battery lasts, according to Toshiba, about 6.5 hours (although in our tests even reached the 6 with moderate use).
The Toshiba Satellite L955D-108 is not the most powerful computer on the market, but also tries to be him. It aims to be a portable lightweight moderate performance, but affordable price.
And the company has achieved just that, a decent team for those not seeking much more. That Yes, its size makes it easily transportable, something that does not help your weight (although it is true that it is low, it is still above the 2 kilos).
On the other hand, the absence of touch screen is a point against for users who want to enjoy Windows 8. That Yes, change offers a keyboard and a trackpad of huge quality, so it is a good option to work.
