The United States Patent Office has granted officially to Jeff Bezos and Greg Hart, CEO and Vice President of Amazon respectively, the patent for a curious airbag system that will allow us to protect from falls to our smartphones or other mobile devices on the market in the near future.

Basically the system would use a series of sensors such as gyroscopes, cameras, infrared or radar capable of detecting movement, orientation, and the distance of the object with respect to another, to determine in a fraction of a second, if the device runs risk of impact and activate the airbag.

One of the ideas most notably in the description of the patent is the use of several small embedded air pockets within the mobile device. If the device is at risk of damage caused by a fall, air bags inflarían instantly through an integrated cartridge of carbon dioxide or compressed air.

The monitoring system could detect through its sensors on that side will hit the device on the ground to deploy the corresponding airbags.

Another of the possibilities described in the patent to prevent damage to our devices would be its reorientation in the air, by the expulsion of gases so that it falls on the side where is deployed airbag, or even, the incorporation of a propulsion element that could expel gas to cause a mild and safe landing.

Without a doubt, this type of patents demonstrate that Amazon is thinking a lot on any type of mobile devices, not just Kindle Fire, if not also smartphones for a near future. What would not be surprised in absolute if within a couple of years our next Kindle Fire saves a dreadful imminent fall.
